12 hour days shifts available FT 3 days per week schedule


Must be available to work between the hours of 6 am- 7 pm

Cook Responsibilities



  • Prepares meals according to menus and production sheets; monitors elders acceptance and preferences

  • Works with dietitian & culinary director to make changes according to elders preferences

  • Uses nutritionally equivalent substitutes when needed; records menu changes

  • Assists with special events as requested

  • Maintains standards for food preparation and quality of food service

  • Ensures proper portion control and minimizes waste; always maintains sanitation and safety standards in food preparation

  • Ensures food and supplies are stored properly

  • Prepares food according to established recipe and production sheets

  • Tests food by smell, taste and sight to determine if it is properly cooked and palatable.

  • Operates a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment, such as blenders, mixers, grinders and slicers. Bakes, roasts, broils, and steams food items to prepare for consumption; prepares food items according to HACCP standards and spreadsheets.

  • Washes, peels, cuts, and shreds vegetables and fruits to prepare for use

  • Labels and dates all food stored in the kitchen, including dates delivered and dates opened.

  • Takes and records pre and post serving temperatures of food and beverages; serves food at appropriate temperatures


Meal Service Responsibilities:



  • Meets meal schedules; meets with elders & tries to accommodate individual preferences. Dietary problems are referred to the culinary director or dietitian.

  • Responsible for coordinating and delivery of meals to all households; promotes a positive dining experience

  • Assists with serving; talks with elders to see how they have enjoyed the meal.

  • Monitor accuracy in diet (including food allergies and preferences) and consistency of food and beverages served to elders

  • Follows protocol for calibrating thermometers and records results on appropriate forms.

  • Sanitation Responsibilities:

  • Monitors condition of dishes and equipment and requisitions maintenance to repair or replace as needed.

  • Understands and follows food sanitation and HACCP rules; monitors food items from delivery through preparation, serving, storage and clean up

  • Inspects kitchen, storage and refrigeration areas and dishwashing areas for proper temperatures and cleaning procedures; documents on appropriate forms

  • Follows assigned cleaning schedules; documents on appropriate forms


Other Responsibilities:



  • Assists the culinary director with orientation & training of staff

  • Demonstrates a caring attitude toward SEM Haven and the elders, staff and visitors;

  • Responsible for security of the department; takes measures to minimize theft and misuse of food and supplies.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all dietary information.

Education/Experience:? Experience in cooking in a food service setting, preferably in a health care facility; certification in food safety desired.



Must be free from illegal use of drugs and free from use and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace. Must pass drug screening and criminal background checks prior to hire.? The following is a summary of essential job duties; full job description is presented upon hire.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
